Inevitably we have reached the point of no return, the year is twenty-nineteen and we are the generation who choose their holiday destination on its aesthetic and how photogenic the hotel we are staying at is. The truth of the matter is, the better something looks to others has sadly become our mark of experience and enjoyment, and amongst all this chaos the hidden gems of the world, both geographically, culturally and historically have leapt into the limelight and they don’t intend to be moving on anytime soon.
So what will we learn from the Instagram-age? Well firstly its evident that more and more people and travelling and exploring this wonderful world, and that is never going to be a negative. In turn they are returning home and passing on that insatiable wanderlust to others around them, which again is something beautiful in itself. With well-travelled and well-educated almost going hand in hand (not in the traditional sense of prim and proper education, but more the open-minded and open-armed type of education with is totally invaluable), people are relishing new experiences and new ways of thinking, which leads us to the cultural pick and mix which lights up our city streets nowadays.
Where would we go? Well honestly, here are just a few of our favourite places when it comes to getting that perfect picture.
MARRAKECH
The imperial city is a go to when it comes to brilliant white washed walls and flurries of burning colour. With endless souks, going to Marrakech and not shopping is almost an impossibility, and what’s better that getting that perfect holiday snap? Well it’s taking something home to photograph time and time again! Nowhere in the world does soft colour, baby blues, yellow hues and gentle greens quite like Marrakech and although you’ll want to capture that scene just as you felt it, it’s vital to remember that taking pictures of the locals without consent is a big No No! Culturally it is believed that the photograph captures the soul of its subject and can cause extremely distressing situations if not adhered to.
SANTORINI
The gem of the Agean is possibly the most commonly uploaded photograph in the travel industry, as the white tops of Thira look out onto the Caldera there is nothing about this scene which doesn’t scream photo-worthy. Santorini has a lot more to offer than just fantastic views, the island itself is a culinary and sensory journey, with fantastic restaurants, bars and hotels all sharing the mouth-watering view of Thira.
ROME
The city of endless history is of course the city of endless photo opportunities. For a long time, Rome was an overlooked destination, cast aside for the history buffs and those avid architectural admirers, however since the social media takeover all that seems to have changed. Rome has become one of the most versatile destinations, with a fantastic setting, almost guaranteed heat and an unrivalled culinary scene, where better to take your pictures stood in front of ancient buildings, or photograph your evening meal from a perfect overhead view? Rome however is not for the faint-hearted as travelling between the best sights is time consuming and tiring, but hey ho you have the ready-made image caption, ‘when in Rome’.
SRI LANKA
To keep the list fresh we thought we would post one of our favourite destinations which is fairly untapped, when compare to Thailand, Cambodia and Maldives, Sri Lanka still has a lot more of its heritage intact. Lush greenery consumes the parts of this wonderful country that the breath-taking beaches do not, and if that isn’t enough the prettiness of the colonial and colourful towns offers something rather Latin American to your holiday. There is something particularly magical about the sleepy town of Galle which offers and combines all the brilliance mentioned above.
So even if picking your holiday based on how photogenic the destination is isn’t really your thing, we have various offers on something more familiar to something extraordinary simply check out our offers or be in contact today. Oh, and don’t forget to share any brilliant holiday images you have captured as we would love to use them across our feeds.
